A view of the church from the south west. The architect intended a spire to sit on top of the octagonal belfry.

The beautiful church of Saint Bartholomew’s, Clyde Road, was consecrated in 1867. Many of its original features are intact, such as the sanctuary mosaics and the elaborate wrought iron choir screen. The architect was Thomas Wyatt. The church has always been known for its High Anglican liturgical tradition.

The church is also celebrated for its fine music. The choir of boys and men, the only remaining all-male parish choir in Ireland, generally sings at least one of the choral services each Sunday during term-time. The remainder are sung by the girls’ choir, which was formed in 2002, and the Elgin Chorale (which sings during choir vacations). The choirs’ repertoire is fully representative of the major styles of choral music from the sixteenth century up to the present day. With its superb acoustic, splendid organ and convenient location, Saint Bartholomew’s is becoming more widely known as an excellent concert venue. You will find details of forthcoming events and services elsewhere on this website.

We are happy to say we have resumed Sunday services!  We offer both a 9:00am service and an 11:00am service.  The 9:00am service is a said Eucharist like always and lasts about 25 minutes.  The 11:00 service is very scaled back from what it usually is–it is a mainly said Eucharist, with only minimal singing from a few voices.  This service lasts 30-35 minutes.  Information on the rules and regulations we have in place for attending services may be found here.

We look forward to resuming our full sung Eucharist services in the future, but we cannot yet say when that will be, as it is dependent on the guidelines issued by the government and the HSE.

The parish office is staffed from 11.00am–3.00pm on Thursdays.  As such, emails and phone calls to the office will have a longer response time than usual.  Please note that during the week, the church is currently closed to the public until further notice. Thank you for your understanding.

The Solemn Eucharist takes place in Saint Bartholomew’s at 11:00am each Sunday, with Evensong at 6:00pm . The Eucharist is said at 9:00am each Sunday. A full diary of events and services is available. If you have any questions about the parish that this web site cannot answer, please contact the administrator on (01) 668 8522 or email admin@stbartholomews.ie.
