Mr Andrew Johnstone Appointed Assistant Director Of Music

It is with great pleasure that we announce the appointment of Mr Andrew Johnstone to the post of Assistant Director of Music here at Saint Bartholomew’s Church.

Andrew Johnstone was born in Lancashire in 1967 and took up organ playing at the age of fourteen. He studied music at Oxford University, where (like his new colleague Tristan Russcher) he was organ scholar of Worcester College. After further training at Chichester Cathedral in Sussex, he settled in Dublin, serving as assistant organist at St Patrick’s Cathedral for six years and at Christ Church Cathedral for nine. Since 1992 Andrew has been on the staff of the music department at TCD, where he teaches courses in theory and musicology and researches the music of the English Reformation. He has also been a regular contributor to the classical music review columns of The Irish Times. As a musician, he has the good fortune that his job is also one of his hobbies; the others include cooking, bridge, and administering the family computers. Andrew lives in Terenure with his wife Siobhán and their six-year-old daughter Cristina.
