South Transept Restoration

The south transept has been restored!

The painted decoration has been conserved and new lights installed.  The old floor was removed and a new timber floor was made, which has been stained and lacquered in keeping with the oak panelling on the walls.  This brings us to the end of our major restoration project that began in 2014.  This final phase was made possible by three donations, plus a grant from the Marshal Beresford’s Fund.

The Select Vestry would like to express their thanks to everyone who has contributed to this restoration over the years: our benefactors; the grants received from Dublin City Council, the Church of Ireland’s Fabric & Development Fund, Allchurches Trust, and the Aviva Stadium; and the work of our fundraising committee, which organised events to help fund the project.  We would also like to express our gratitude to all the craftspeople who, under the professional supervision of Silvia Mambriani of Howley Hayes Architects, worked to conserve, restore, and carry out remedial works to make the building safe and secure for years to come.

Our thanks go to Nat Clements and his team for the superb restoration of the painted interior; to our lighting advisor Kate Nelligan of Willie Duggan Lighting; and to our electrician Derek Nolan of FES Electrical, who installed the new lighting within the church.  Finally, a special thanks to our fabric committee, which gave invaluable expertise and countless hours of its time over the years to oversee the project to completion.
