Women’s World Day of Prayer Service: Friday, 1 March

Featured

Saint Bartholomew’s is proud to host this year’s Women’s World Day of Prayer service on Friday, 1 March at 3.00pm. This service is part of a global event held annually on the first Friday in March.  The Women’s World Day of Prayer is the largest ecumenical movement in the world organised by women, and the churches in Ballsbridge/Donnybrook take turns hosting the event in our area each year.  The service for 2019 has been written by the Christian women of Slovenia and its theme is “Come—Everything is Ready!”  All parishioners—not just women!—are warmly invited to attend.  The service will be followed by refreshments in the parish room, to which everyone is welcome.  It has been five years since Saint Bartholomew’s had the honour of hosting this special event, so do please come along and show your support!

Bake Sale this Sunday

Our monthly bake and book fundraising sales resume this Sunday after the 11.00am service and will thereafter be held on the second Sunday of each month.  We love to indulge in the culinary creativity of our parishioners at these sales, and so we invite you to donate homemade cakes, tarts, tray bakes—or whatever else you enjoy baking!  (pssst…Great British Bake Off just started its new season if you’re looking for inspiration!) (psssst again…this week the theme is biscuits!)  All goods may be dropped off before the service to the parish room.

Saint Bartholomew’s Day

We celebrated our patronal festival yesterday with a custom cake made by chef (and our parishioner!) Amos McGrath, which featured an edible image of El Greco’s 17th century portrait of Saint Bartholomew. Not a crumb was left!

We were delighted with the large turnout for the service, which even included a four-legged parishioner!

Our thanks go to Amos and everyone who contributed to the beautiful service and the reception afterward.

The Bells are Back on!

After well over a year of silence while the tower was being restored, we are so excited to announce that our bells are back on!

The mechanisms have been oiled, the belfry’s been cleaned, the pigeons have been evicted…

…it’s like the return of an old friend.

Our thanks go to everyone who helped us reach this stage–the restoration teams, the painters, the mechanics, the cleaners, and our supporters. Thanks to you, Ballsbridge has its music again.

Patronal Festival: Sunday, 25 August

We will celebrate our patronal festival of Saint Bartholomew on Sunday, 25 August with a said Eucharist at 9.00am and the solemn Eucharist at 11.00am.  Refreshments will be available after the latter in the parish room.  This is an important event in our calendar as a parish, and as such it is an ideal opportunity to invite your family and friends to join and celebrate with us!

Everyone, Look at the Tower!

Finally, finally, FINALLY!  As more and more of the scaffolding comes down, we are able to get a sense of just how enormous an undertaking the tower’s renovation has been.  The work crews’ skill and dedication (not to mention their fortitude on especially windy days) have rewarded us with a beautifully restored tower.  The stonework and clock faces are positively gleaming.  We are beyond grateful for all of the support we have received in funding this massive project.  The bells will be ringing again before you know it!

Corpus Christi: Thursday, 20 June

The feast of Corpus Christi this year falls on Thursday, 20 June.  The service will begin at the slightly earlier time of 7.00pm and will be followed by the annual parish BBQ.  This is a great event for family and friends, but we can’t do it without your help and support.  If you can bring food or drink to the event, please write your name and what you intend to bring on the sheet at the back of the church.  Thank you!
