Charity Sale of Art and Prints: Friday, 19 May | 6.00pm

Our art and print sale in aid of parish funds will be held Friday, 19 May at the United Arts Club (3 Fitzwilliam Street Upper, D02 RR50).  The evening kicks off with a wine reception at 6.00pm.  There will be a wide selection of art at a range of prices, so do please come out and support us!  We are still accepting additional items for inclusion, so if you have any good quality prints or paintings that you would like to donate, please contact the parish administrator or the vicar.  If you are a budding artist or printmaker yourself, we can also help to sell your work with an agreed commission (contact the vicar for details).

Advent Appeal Results

Our Advent giving tree appeal raised €1300 for two charities this year, the Peter McVerry Trust and the Simon Community. We are very grateful to all those who pledged throughout the season of Advent. Thank you all for your generosity and support for the work of these two important charities.

Art & Fine Prints Sale

Saint Bartholomew’s Church will host an art & fine prints sale in the United Arts Club, 3 Fitzwilliam Street, from 6.00pm on Friday, 3 December. The art will be on display in the upstairs main reception room and will be opened by Ib Jorgensen, whose decades-long career in Irish fashion has made him one of the most distinguished names in the business. There will be a wine reception and a raffle on the night. Please join us for this very special event and the opportunity to purchase very beautiful works of art and prints. There will be an option of further viewing and an opportunity to buy on the Saturday, and we will announce the time for this, if required, closer to the date.  Please note that parking in the area is metred until 7.00pm.

South Transept Restoration

The south transept has been restored!

The painted decoration has been conserved and new lights installed.  The old floor was removed and a new timber floor was made, which has been stained and lacquered in keeping with the oak panelling on the walls.  This brings us to the end of our major restoration project that began in 2014.  This final phase was made possible by three donations, plus a grant from the Marshal Beresford’s Fund.

The Select Vestry would like to express their thanks to everyone who has contributed to this restoration over the years: our benefactors; the grants received from Dublin City Council, the Church of Ireland’s Fabric & Development Fund, Allchurches Trust, and the Aviva Stadium; and the work of our fundraising committee, which organised events to help fund the project.  We would also like to express our gratitude to all the craftspeople who, under the professional supervision of Silvia Mambriani of Howley Hayes Architects, worked to conserve, restore, and carry out remedial works to make the building safe and secure for years to come.

Our thanks go to Nat Clements and his team for the superb restoration of the painted interior; to our lighting advisor Kate Nelligan of Willie Duggan Lighting; and to our electrician Derek Nolan of FES Electrical, who installed the new lighting within the church.  Finally, a special thanks to our fabric committee, which gave invaluable expertise and countless hours of its time over the years to oversee the project to completion.

Allchurches Trust Grant

The Select Vestry would like to acknowledge with thanks the generous grant received from Allchurches Trust towards our project, Kids in Church and Singing for Life under the Growing Lives programme.  This project aims to furnish and equip our north transept for bringing children back into church after COVID-19.  Children coming to church on Sundays will have a dedicated area stocked with toys, Bible books, jigsaws, colouring sheets, and other assorted activities to educate and entertain them during services.  During the week, the area will be used for teaching the boys and girls in our Singing for Life curriculum, for which we have purchased desks and iPads. Suitable carpeting will be procured when retail outlets reopen after lockdown. This is an ongoing project, and we expect to complete it over the next few months.
